How do YOU pronounce “Thoth”???

mscairowednesday:

Recently, I went to New Orleans for a weekend trip and was excited to find a quaint store in the French Quarter that held many Egyptian themed items and for me, a Kemetic, I was super excited! The lady that was working the shop was very nice but when I asked about an item featuring Thoth, she looked at me for a moment like I was crazy and said, “Oh, you mean Toth!”

Now I personally have only my little family to talk about my religion with face to face and so I had never heard that pronunciation before. It was like toh-th (or the word “toe” with a “th” at the end).

So I was just curious as to some of the other pronunciations Kemetics and even others use!

(I’m so afraid that I’ve been saying it wrong this whole time! I mean, he hasn’t fwapped me with his pen or scolded me or anything soooo)

Relax. I pronounce is THAWTH, like thought. But it’s ancient Egyptian and there is no known correct pronunciation. Your guess is as good as anyone.
