Tiye (the Great Royal Wife of Amenhotep III, mother of Akhenaten and grandmother of Tutankhamun) chose Nefertiti as a wife for his son.
AKHENATEN
Amun was the dominant god of Egypt. Therefore, began his reign named Amenhotep IV, as had his father, his grandfather and great-great-grandfather. But, circa fourth year of his reign, he preferred adore Aten (a lesser god) and raise it to the rank of the only official state deity.
Consequently, he was baptized himself as Akhenaten (“living spirit of Aten”). Nefertiti also changed her name to Neferneferuaten (“the Beautiful one has come”).
