Hey there. This is kinda a follow up on the question you asked Neil Gaiman. :) In part of your question, you mention how expensive conventions and workshops are to go to. They are expensive! But I know that at least for conventions, you can go for free if you volunteer. Usually it’s something along the lines of work half a day and get the other half off, or work a full day and get the rest of the con off. That can definitely help if money is an issue.

For my local cons, that’s exactly what I do. Indianapolis holds GenCon every year, and while it is not a literary con, it does have some writers and editors giving seminars. When cons are further away, the cost of hotel and food is still too much, even if I shared with other people.
