The Neo-Esoterica Tarot (Ex Tenebris Lux)
Major Arcana – The Magus – Atu I – ב
The first divine manifestation in the Major Arcana after The Fool is Atu I – The Magus. The Magus (or Magician) represents Divine Wisdom from above, a true understanding on the human level of the old Hermetic saying “As Above, So Below.” Atu I is the link between the Supreme and Understanding. Within Aleister Crowley’s Qabalistic piece “Liber 777”, the Magus corresponds with all forms of Divine Knowledge and Understanding- within the A∴A∴, the grade ‘Magus’ is interestingly connected with the Sephiroth ‘Chokmah’ or ‘Wisdom’.
The Magus is represented here as a Divine Androgyne, a synthesis of two elements combined to create a crowned beast proudly displaying their Knowledge and Wisdom. Amongst them is the interweaving serpents of the Caduceus symbol going around their limbs. With them, there is a bird representing the story of Mercury, a Greek deity known for their wings. In the center is the Unicursal Hexagram, a relatively recent symbol of Magick made famous by Aleister Crowley. Above them is a Octagram with the symbol of Mercury within.
