Book Five: Beast, is the last episode of My Babylon and is now available on Amazon. I’ve got to say, I’m proud of how it turned out. The ending came together better than I expected. Or, I could be fooling myself. Here are the things I think I did right.
1. Portrayed magick in an interesting way for both practitioners and non-practitioners
I think the rituals and the ways they were described were dramatic and thought-provoking. People who practice in different traditions will see the similarities that cut across all magick.
2. Made a horribly flawed main characters that can be redeemed
I’m not saying he has been redeemed, only that you might want to stick around to see how this turns out.
3. Made a case for the “other” side
I think I showed that the “bad guys,” i.e. Babylon and the Beast, are not boogiemen, they just have another perspective. One you may have some agreement with.
4. Made everything personal
This is not on a grand scale. It’s all about the people who are experiencing it. All of the magick and events work towards developing the characters, not some grand overreaching plot.
5. Portrayed sex, even “abnormal” sex, as a vital part of the human condition
None of the characters would make the revelations they had without sex. It is the thing that tears down perceptions and drives the will. Sometimes, bad things happen because of how the characters choose to react to sex, but the sex itself is not the problem.
