People are going to trot-out the usual suspects – video games, movies, music, and guns, but the problem goes much deeper than that. When you live in a society that spends more money on killing people than any other society, that’s a problem. When you live in a society where the dominant religion has a raging psychopath for a diety, that’s a big fucking problem. When the good guys, the ultimate good guy, is lauded for slaughtering all the first born of Egypt. Kills innocent children because their parents keep slaves, which by the way he doesn’t have a problem with slavery, he told his chosen people they could keep slaves. That’s a religion of a tribal god of wrath, not a god of love.
This is the big problem, and it goes so much deeper than pop culture. It runs as a deep current in our psyche for 2,000 years. Even Jesus said you’re either with me or you’re against me. With that attitude, with the idea that there are chosen and unchosen lies the key to the problem. Once you can label people as the “others” you create the problem.
What shocks me everytime it happens is that people are shocked it happened. But I know why. Because if they don’t act shocked they have to admit that they are a part of a culture that creates it. That they are partially responsible. I’m partially responsible, and I have no idea what I can do to stop it except for pray for the arrival of Babalon.
