Could you recommend me a good book I should read before starting practice? I’d love to practice and I’ve been reading some books on the black arts but some of them contradict each other and I feel I should have a good knowledge on what I’m doing before starting to practice. Thanks

I’m not sure if I would define any art, “black” – connotation “evil or self-centered.” If what you’re reading does than you may want to ask yourself if that’s how you really view magick.

In any case, my overall recommendation is always first listen to this http://scrollofthoth.com/episode-1-peter-j-carroll-4/. You can ignore my blathering and just listen to the Peter J. Carroll part. And then read this http://www.amazon.com/Liber-Null-Psychonaut-Introduction-Chaos/dp/0877286396. Which can be had for free various places on the web, but you probably don’t need me to help you with that. (Please support Pope Pete by buying one of his more recent titles.)

For me, Peter J. Carroll has the profound ability to describe magick by its component parts and get to the essence. Everything else is just asthetics. Though magick is an art in my opinion, making the asthetics quite important.

Why ask anon?

“Magick should be performed to get results,” admonishes Peter J. Carroll. It is one of the cardinal rules of chaos magick and one I believe in. Yesterday after ritual, it struck me – what results am I looking for? In my quest to be a part of a magical order have I become one of those magicians? Am I just wankering?

This is the problem with the majority of Crowley’s rituals. What’s the fucking point? What was he trying to accomplish? Knowledge and conversation with his HGA? Getting in tune with the universe? Enlarging his penis?

I don’t have a good answer. At least not one that satisfies me. For now, I am considering the Star Ruby exercising my magical potential. A way to increase my ability to generate gnosis. And, maybe most importantly, I enjoy doing it. Enjoyment is a result, right?

mythology meme  ─  [1/7] norse gods/goddesses

Skaði  (or Skadi) is a goddess associated with bowhunting, skiing, winter, and mountains. Skaði is attested in the Poetic Edda, the Prose Edda, Heimskringla, and in the works of skalds. In all sources, Skaði is the daughter of the deceased Þjazi, and Skaði married the god Njörðr as part of the compensation provided by the gods for killing her father. Skaði is said to as have split up with Njörðr and later had married the god Odin, and the two produced many children together. The etymology of the name Skaði is uncertain, but may be connected with the original form of Scandinavia.
