What are your thoughts on Theistic Satanism and Luciferianism? Why do you think the pagan community is quick to pass judgement when they claim their community is all inclusive and views all paths as sacred?
Great question Lux. Well first, theistic satanism seems good to me. Satan is the opposer to the christian god usually. So that’s an interesting conundrum as the very open minded sections of the pagan community attempt to accommodate both christian pagans and theistic satanists. Honestly? The pagan revival was founded on being neither christian nor satanist. The early texts of neopaganism repeat the mantra in the first dozen pages of every book on the subject. No wonder both groups are having trouble finding a place. The founders of the neopagan movement forbid little else than these two. But the big voices in the blogosphere are shouting down that decades old definition (it’s so five minute ago!), and rallying for pagan to mean anyone who wants to say they are pagan. That’s a definition that’s starting to gain a small foothold. Its just a label after all and a useless one at this point. So let it peel off in the dishwasher. Hey I’ll go with the flow and play nice, I think that christian witches pose little threat to pagans (except perhaps to accidentally call down the wrath of hard line christians on themselves and perhaps by extension other non christian witches and pagans, but it takes nothing more than children’s fantasy novels to rouse them, so christian witches can’t be blamed) I’d rather help them than their persecutors who would roast us both (one previously popular christian pagan witch got kicked out of school and has to hide his computer use due to being found out). I want his freedom as much as any other random pagan blogger. (I’m a bleeding heart!) As for the pagans yelling that they aren’t satanist? It will fall deaf on the ears of the same hardliners as they are convinced anything that ain’t their god is the devil. Why try and please them? We do stand against that kind of fundamentalist intolerance so we are their devil (as individual freethinking is the fundamentalist’s devil). So why not call our self proclaimed enemy’s enemy your friend? Anyways, in short, fuck it, even if I don’t see the old pagan label fitting, I still welcome them at my table for dinner and a drop of something warm and if its that important to them to say they are pagan, why not. More the merrier!
