primmie dorks: in hunter gatherer tribes, there is no need
for laws or rules of any kind! within such small groups, societies
function purely on the basis of individualist impulses
actual hunter gatherer societies: [strict rule against eating food you killed yourself]own-kill prohibitions are an interesting case actually because they only make sense when you analyze society in terms of groups instead of just in terms of collections of individuals- on an individual level, such prohibitions make no sense, they make people to rely on others even when they don’t really need to, but, by doing so, they create more cohesive social groups
on an individual level, a person who abstains from eating their own kill will be out-competed by an individual who follows no such rules, but on a group level, a group which coheres together strongly because of such prohibitions will out-compete a community which is less tightly bound together. in that context, the emergence of own-kill prohibitions makes a lot of sense.
Is this an accurate depiction of anarchoprimitive beliefs? I’m asking sincerely, I know who John Zerzan is and ive had actual Native friends who have espoused their ideas but can’t say I’ve delved any deeper into the philosophy. I’m just surprised by this because – I’d say I studied anthropology because I’m Native, and became an anarchist because I studied anthropology, so I guess I’m astonished that one could get such a bad read on small scale traditionally anarchist societies with even the most cursory study.
well I’m sure not all primmies believe this, but it does seem to be an inevitable product of the currently trendy cross-pollination of primitivism and stirnerite egoism, so a lot of people in that overlap believe it
that’s a clever way to say “idk, i mostly made this position up”. anyway, very, very few people who incorporate egoism into green anarchy are primitivists who found their views on western anthropology and idealize the past. honestly that’s not even a good descriptor of a decent faction of older self-identified primitivists. the source is neat, i’m just confused as to why you had to tack on something to the prim joke that’s been slowly dying.
how do such plainly dishonest people get such large followings lol. literally admitting you’re just making up what you *think* someone who disagrees with you might say with almost nothing backing it up.
well fortunately since morality is a spook dishonesty holds no negative moral weight :^)
anyways i was responding to this post [link] fuck off
This is not my usual fare, but I have spent the last two decades studying hunter gatherer societies, both ancient and modern. I am just going to automatically assume that anyone who refers to hunter gatherer societies and “primitives” or “primmies” is not only wrong but needs to be slapped repeatedly.
There is no greater defence against the grim, uncompromising wasteland of the late capitalist world than the unshakeable awareness that it will end and you will not.
Can I use the Hugin and Munin Odin picture for my eSport Team. You will be creditted. It looks so cool.
Like most images on tumblr, it is not mine. I am not the artist. You would need to track them down and ask their permission. If you can’t find the artist, here is my general rule. Will you in any way make money from using this image? If yes, you must pay the artist. If no, run with it, but make sure to credit the artist. I am probably not as consistent as I should be making sure artists get credit. For that, I apologize.
