From my own personal experience talking to spirits of the dead, I can only say this. That the work continues after you are dead. There are still struggles and injustices to overcome. There is suffering, just not like the kind of suffering we experience here. There are spirits out there that we have no understanding of, and they effect our lives more than we know. There are ways to prepare your spirit for death. Look to the ancient practices and you can learn some of them. The difference between being prepared for your death as opposed to not, is like the difference between being born rich and being born poor. You can always lose that wealth, and a poor person can always overcome those difficulties, but you would rather be born into riches in the afterlife, right?
