Learn a proceedure. Do the procedure to the letter. If it works, do it again. Do this enough times and with enough different proceedures, and you’ll have a working knowledge of what is effective and what is not.
Then, synthesize all your knowledge and do something new. But don’t pretend the proceedures you followed to figure this shit out were your invention. And don’t pretend that you’re the only one who could do it. Proceedures exist to pass knowledge to each other because anybody can do magick if they learn the right skills.
My counter to this would be from my own personal experience. Whenever I follow a procedure to the letter it seldom works for me. When I adapt a procedure to my own paradigm and personal experience, I have a much higher rate of success.
I would say that doing the exact procedure was beneficial, and I learned from doing it. But I am not sure if it is absolutely necessary.
This observation comes from someone who has a few years of experience. Not saying I’m some great magus, but Iv’e done some work. Others may have a different experience.
Overall, I think people are better off learning as much as possible about any given magical operation before trying any version of it.
Hello! In my own magical practice I use what I would call “grids”. They look something like this:
The practice and idea of construction, casting, and working with and within circles has been a common presence within the community of witches for years. The circle represents the basic form of fluid wholeness; with no angles or corners, no end or beginning. It represents a great deal to many witches in this community and I come to you today to show you my circle grid construction for a whole slew of spells with as many purposes as one can think up.
I know, its a lot to look at. but dont worry, well break it down. Here is your basic construction.
The basic construction of these circles is fairly simple, made up of eight parts.
1. The outer circle(green)
The Outer circle is there to keep all energies outside of the circle, with the exception of the power source.
2. The inner circle(red)
The inner circle helps to hold all desired energies inside of the grid, keeping everything nice and tidy.
3. A power source(indigo)
The power source is whatever you want it to be, and yes I do mean whatever. More on why to and ways to power your grid later
4. The power source path(indigo)
The power source path leads from the power source to the central circle, touching both the inner and outer circle, then it flows through the node paths to the nodes themselves. The nodes are powered last as to make sure everything is ready to go before the actual infusion starts
5. A central circle(teal)
The central circle is where you place the object that will be filled with the desired aspects. It could be a talisman, a poppet, a tag lock, a token, or even yourself.
6. Removal(pink) / infusion(blue) nodes
These hold items of the aspects that you wish to place in the object. For example, maybe a small bottle of black salt in one, rose thorns in another, and then for the final item place a small vial of basil. In the center you place a necklace you wear everyday. The protective aspects are pushed into the necklace from the nodes. This process works in reverse for the removal nodes. Say you have an item of silver that you would like to use on your altar but you don’t know where it came from. So you place it in the center and in the removal nodes you place three pieces of blank paper, or three stones, three crystals, etc. the past and energy the item carried is removed.
7. The node pedestals
The node pedestals are where you place the items within the node. They are able to follow the lines to the central circle and node.
8. The node paths (3)
Each node has three paths to which the attributes follow.
You won’t need all nodes for all spells. there is a chance for you to have a basic removal, and basic infusion grids. Like these:
So why power your grid? Is it absolutely necessary?
No, you don’t have to use a power source, and to be honest I don’t even use a power source all the time. It’s completely fine to not use one, but the power source always gives my spells an extra boost and helps me visualize the energies Im working with. Energy is something put into all spells, and in my case and for me, I like to have a direct path for my energy to flow as i take the energy from one thing and put it into another, be that the universe or the flame of a candle. In reality anything can be a power source, from the sun to the earth to the stars. It all depends on what you want to power the ritual. The energy from the sun for warmth and fiery passion, energy from the moon for cool strong power. Some things you can use are:
Yourself
Simply sit in the power source circle and put your own energy into the grid.
The sun
My personal method of utilizing the sun is to place something black in the power source, or a statue of it, and build the grid in the sun.
The moon
My method for the moon is to simply place something white in the grid, or a statue of it, and build the grid in the moon.
A candle
A bowl of water
A bowl of earth
Incense
Although they seem limited, you can place things just inside the circle without placing them in the nodes. An example: just placing a placeholder for the goddess aphrodite inside the circle while asking her to be present in the ritual will still have an effect.
They’re incredibly versatile, easily personalized, and easy to master. Go forth and create! just credit me for my idea, please!
You can of course still request three card readings but the earliest I will get to them is Friday night.
We must aim for liberation. Babalon is at war with limitation. For you that may be Christianity or Islam or Capitalist consumerism. Her injunction is simple: Destroy all limits with Love.
Peter Grey, The Red Goddess
“Thy
tears, thy sweat, thy blood, thy semen, thy love, thy faith shall provide. Ah,
I shall drain thee like the cup that is of me, BABALON.
Let me behold thee naked and lusting after me,
calling upon my name.
Let
me receive all thy manhood within my Cup, climax upon climax, joy upon joy.”
Jack Parsons, Liber 49 – The Book of Babalon
“This
is the Mystery of Babylon, the Mother of Abominations, and this is the mystery
of her adulteries, for she hath yielded up herself to everything that liveth,
and hath become a partaker in its mystery. And because she hath made her self
the servant of each, therefore is she become the mistress of all. Not as yet
canst thou comprehend her glory.
Beautiful
art thou, O Babylon, and desirable, for thou hast given thyself to everything
that liveth, and thy weakness hath subdued their strength. For in that union
thou didst understand. Therefore art thou called Understanding, O Babylon, Lady
of the Night!”
It is not a dumb question. So many traditions consider queer people to be more likely to use magick. They exist in a liminal space. Their is a long history of LGBTQ people who were bad-ass magi.
But I don’t feel really qualified to talk on the subject being straight. I hope some of the bi-sexual and other non-cis people here chimes in on this.
