BAPHOMET
TEM.’. O.’. H.’. P.’. Abb.’.
(Binario Verbum Vitae Mortem et Vitam Aequilibrans)There are several figures of Baphomet which exist.
Sometimes he is shown with a beard and with the horns of a goat, the face of a man, the breast of a woman, the mane and claws of a lion, the wings of an eagle and the hooves of a bull.
He is the resurrected sphinx of Thebes; he is the monster alternating between captive and conqueror of Oedipus.
He is the science which protests against idolatry through the very monstrosity of the idol.
He carries between his horns the torch of life and the living soul of this torch is God.
It was forbidden for the Israelites to give the figure of man, or those of any animal, to divine concepts.
Likewise, they only dared to sculpt Cherubs on the ark of the covenant and in the sanctuary, that is to say Sphinxes with the bodies of bulls and the heads of men, of eagles or of lions.
These mixed figures reproduced neither the complete form of man, nor that of any animal.
These hybrid creations of impossible animals made those who observed them comprehend that the sign was not an idol nor an image of a living thing, but rather a character or representation of something having its existence in thought.
Baphomet is not worshipped; God is worshipped without a face before this formless form and this image that has no resemblance with created things.
Baphomet is not a God: he is the sign of initiation; he is also the hieroglyphic figure of the great divine tetragrammaton.
He is a recollection of the Cherubs of the ark and the Holy of holies.
He is the guardian of the key to the temple.
Baphomet is analogous to the black God of Rabbi Simeon.
He is the dark side of the divine face.
This is why, during the ceremony of initiation, the recipient is required to kiss the hind-face of Baphomet or, in order to give him a more vulgar name, the devil.
– Eliphas Levi, “The Book of Splendors”
This is an article from Rolling Thunder Issue 3(2006) about this persons experience of being arrested and going through the whole prison system.
It may be a bit dated, and it’s kind of an extreme case, but I feel it’s very important. It’s also important to note that the person in this is white and it very well could, and probably will be, worse for people of color, especially black folks.
Putting it under a read more because it’s a little bit of a read.
The art of Jose Gabriel Alegria Sabogal will be featured in a new book dedicated entirely to his own work in Handbook of Sacred Anatomy…which is forthcoming through Aeon Sophia Press and will go on pre-order in January. This gentleman is quite talented and is another one of my favourite modern artists. There will only be 100 copies of this book available in a limited edition hardback book. I am sure as the time gets closer to its release I will post more information about this release here…I’ve been waiting for this one for a while now.
To see more of his work, visit his blog at: http://hathrul.blogspot.com/

We’re in a pretty bad situation right now. Last week, a driver ran a red light and destroyed our car. My wife, who has had knee problems all her life, had her knees slammed into the dashboard destroying a year’s worth of rehabilitation and leaving her in pain.
She’s had to take a week off of work without pay, and my job requires that I have a car to visit clients and attend court.
We can really use a boost and there are several ways you can help.
If you enjoy our podcasts, Scroll of Thoth, and Geeks Out After Dark, you can go to their respective websites and use the paypal donation button. Every little bit helps. You can also use the Amazon search windows on either website to buy your Yule gifts on Amazon. You just start your first search through our site and everything you buy gets us a small kickback.
You can also purchase one of our books, like My Babylon, Chasing the Wyrm, or Paul Vs. The Vampire. We even have a Mid-World Arts Christmas collection with our fellow indie writers. We just dropped the price on that from $6.99 to $2.99. You can get My Babylon and Chasing the Wyrm in print if you prefer.
I know many folks don’t have much to spare. Just going to Amazon and leaving a review for our books helps. You can even get My Babylon: Book One for free and give that a review. Leaving a review on iTunes or Stitcher helps promote our podcasts.
Last, reblogging this to get the word out would be greatly appreciated.
Joyous Yule and Happy Holidays. May you have great cheer as the light of the world returns to us.

X-Ray and Anatomical Stained Glass Windows by Artist Wim Delvoye
In his ongoing series of Gothic works, initiated in 1999, Belgian artist Wim Delvoye about whose tattooed pigs I have blogged about in the past, created some very unusual stained-glass windows and sculptural works made of steel, lead, glass and actual x-ray.For his “Chapel” series, Delvoye took x-rays of two friends performing sexual acts, then combined the x-rays with stained glass to fill the windows of a gothic-style chapel. Some of the windows simply look as though they are made of an abstract design, when upon closer inspection, one can see teeth, intestines, skulls and other anatomical features.
The Eye of Horus was believed to have healing and protective power, and it was used as a protective amulet. It was also used as a notation of measurement, particularly for measuring the ingredients in medicines and pigments. The symbol was divided into six parts, representing the shattering of Horus´ eye into six pieces. Each piece was associated with one of the six senses and a specific fraction.
More complex fractions were created by adding the symbols together. It is interesting to note that if the pieces are added together the total is 63/64 not 1. Some suggest that the remaining 1/64 represents the magic used by Thoth to restore the eye, while others consider that the missing piece represented the fact that perfection was not possible. However, it is equally likely that they appreciated the simplicity of the system which allowed them to deal with common fractions quickly, after all they already had a symbol for the number “1” and they had other numerical notations available when they needed to use smaller fractions.
