When possession occurs, the other participants of a circle can speak with the spirit or god and engage in direct verbal communication with them. This is much different to ecstatic ritual where everyone is totally aware of what they’re doing. Although the priestess is delivering the speech of the gods, they will often awaken with having absolutely no memory of the message they presented to the rest of the circle. I have seen this happen many times and I can assure you that this experience can be very legitimate and very real. I have seen quiet and mousy priests turn into something like a mighty and thundering king. I’ve seen priestesses who aspect a goddess tell me things that they could not possibly know on their own. This impressive form of oracular ritual is extremely intense, but something that I think everyone should experience, even if occasionally. Speaking with a priestess who is aspecting a deity can bring incredible insight, even on things you had no idea you needed insight on in the first place!”
