It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything political. But this came up on my playlist today while I was driving. Every time I hear it now it brings me to tears.

I give you a song of peace. This was recorded with the Syrian National Orchestra a year before all those assholes – Assad, the rebels, and the Islamic State – destroyed a beautiful country and left us with 10 million refugees. Prayers for Syria.

I don’t mean to disparage the people who have posted this. I am also against any military involvement in Syria. But it hurts your cause when you don’t have your facts right.

6. Syria is the last secular state in the Middle East – That depends on what you call a secular state. But I think we can all agree that Lebanon is a democratic, secular state in the Middle East.

7. Syria has a strong cultural identity. – Once again, it really depends on what you mean by this. One thing that is certain is the violence in Syria is sect related. The government is run by a minority group following Wahhabism and the majority group, and majority of the rebels are Sunnis.

9. Syria has the Oil and the natural gas. – The dubious grammar used in this statement aside, Syria is NOT a major producer of oil or natural gas. It is predicted that Syria will become a net oil importer within the next few years.

So get out and tell people why you believe the US should not bomb Syria. It won’t help the civilians. It won’t help the rebels. The rebels may not be the kind of people we want to be in control there.

But fact-check yourself before you wreck your cause.
