Dream Journal

10/30-10/31

I don’t have any excuses for not keeping up on my dream journal, except I’ve been enjoying the season. I did have a great zombie dream last night I want to share. As an added bonus, it also had vampires and a necromancer.

I was a leader of a group of survivors. The dream had interesting details. I remember that me and the other leaders would hold council meetings every evening to discuss our situation, and whether or not we have attracted too much attention and should move on.

We would find safe areas and fortify them. I remember enjoying how the increased sense of safety would help the less capable of our group. I especially enjoyed visiting the children and seeing their drawings. One time, a little girl drew a gold sparkly piece of calligraphy that said “love.” I knew then that I had to make our situation as safe as possible.

Things turned bad, of course. At these point in the dream I switched perspectives and was no longer a participant, but just an observer. I watched a group of vampire hunters enter a nearby building. After discovering a nest of them, they burned the building down, but neglected to go down into the basement. After that, the vampires chased them back to our camp, slaughtering a few of our group.

We returned the next day and opened up the basement to sunlight. This destroyed a few more, but at the council meeting that night, we were pretty sure that some of them escaped.

As if on cue, a huge horde of zombies attacked. We did pretty well, until the zombies started talking. This freaked out most of our group and sent them into a route.

I encountered one of the new talking zombies. It told me that we had invoked it’s anger, and they would kill us all for our offense. It was then that I realized one of the surviving vampires was a necromancer, controlling the zombie hordes. This actually gave me hope, as I noticed the zombies being directly controlled by the necromancer were even less coordinated and vulnerable to melee attacks. I could just walk up to them and stick them in the eye with a small shiv.

Too bad it ended there. Yeah, the whole thing was obviously the product of my pop/geek culture saturated brain, but it was a lot of fun. A damn good dream for Devil’s Night.

Happy Halloween!
