Emergent Magick  – CHAPTER 1: MAGICK

Magick is the art of
altering consciousness.

A loaded term, magic has been associated with trickery,
falsehood, and wishful thinking. The Order of Emergent Magi (OEM) continues the
Western esoteric tradition of spelling magick with a “K” on the end to differentiate
it from the other common definitions. While the difference in spelling may
serve as denotation it does little to help us define what we mean by the term
itself. The term probably means something to you, dear reader, or else you
wouldn’t have picked up this book. But in order to move forward we must have a
consensus as to what it means in the context of Emergent Magick (EMK). While
the definition, “Magick is the art of altering consciousness,” seems succinct
enough; it requires additional explanation and agreeance on the terms within
the definition itself.

The most elusive word in the First Protocol is consciousness. Not surprisingly, since
modern science and philosophy has yet to come to a consensus on what consciousness
is, how it is created, what possesses it, and if it even objectively exists. We
make no claim to ultimate truth, but consciousness in the context of EMK has
certain characteristics.

In EMK, everything a magi can perceive contains
consciousness. Including the magi themselves. However, all things contain differing
levels of consciousness. Levels of consciousness varies among different
instances of the same object, from animal to animal in the same species, and
from person to person. Consciousness also exists in non-corporeal entities and
ideas.

Not surprisingly, this brings Emergent Magick in line with
the first human belief system—animism. In animism all things–rocks, rivers,
animals, etc.–contain their own spirit. In most respects, spirit is synonymous
with consciousness.

Consciousness arises within any complex system. With our
understanding of the sub-atomic, this includes all matter, as it consists of
complex swirling clouds of particles. When consciousness expresses itself in
matter, it forms elements (as in the periodic table, not the classical Greek
system). It can also express itself in energy and other forms imperceptible to
human senses.

“Levels” of consciousness refer to an entity’s ability to
experience the unity of consciousness. As the universe itself, being its own
complex system, has its own consciousness that all other consciousness is a part
of.

Who is Frater Threskiornis?

A.K.A. Scroll of Thoth, Frater T, Cobblepot

I am Frater Threskiornis(1), 4* in The Magical Pact of the
Illuminates of Thanateros(2). I initiated at 43 years old. Way too fucking late
if you ask me.

I have come to a crossroads in my magical practice. All of
my former accumulated knowledge, and my attempts at intellectualizing my way
through building my own paradigm, now looks just silly to me. None of that
knowledge was gained through, and within gnosis(3).

I find myself continuously pulled toward the wisdom that
lies within the Witch’s Sabbat. At the height of the proceedings. Beyond the
planned rituals and the bonding. In the deep of the night when the party gets
real good, and you are totally at ease with yourself and everyone around you. That’s
when the Devil appears.

I have seen him and he is a bad-ass motherfucker. Because he
really wants you to be exactly who you are.

Yet, my great patron, the Mighty Djhuety. Thoth, he who
creates with a word. Pulls me back and says, “Slow down man, you still need to
read, and you still need to keep your shit together.”

I believe I have hit the second stage(4) of being a
magician. I have been on this kick where all the things I loved as a child, but
abandoned as silly as an adult, I am giving them another try. I have gained the
ability to enjoy sitting outside, fireworks, huge concerts. My huge white ass
won a dance contest? It’s been kind of amazing.

And, my skills in divination have increased dramatically. I
feel very confident reading tarot for other people.

But I’m still waiting for my big breakthrough. Truly designing
my own paradigm. But I know it’s somewhere between the Library of Thoth and the
Blasted Heath

(2)
The largest and most respected international
order of chaos wizard. These are some bad ass magicians. I, however, am a lowly
little 4* (the fourth degree being the lowest level initiatory member), making
my way in the Pact, looking for a dollar here, a dollar there….

(3)
Dammit kids, I am going to say that YES some
drugs are good for you.

(4)
The first being, you really get rid of your
fears. You feel as if whatever life throws at you, you can handle it.

Magician For Hire

When I tried teaching classes at my local occult store a
couple of years ago it didn’t go so well. The owners told me that no one really
wants to put in the time and effort to learn magick, but they suggested that I
offer divination services or to do magick for people. At the time, making money
off of my magick left a bad taste in my mouth, so I declined. But times change.
I have grown more confident in my abilities, and feel competent enough to get
results.

Last week a friend of mine asked me to do some magick for
him to help get rid of a psychic vampire and reignite his energy. It went
extremely well. He was profoundly grateful, and I liked the feeling of helping
someone with my abilities.

So with a mountain of medical debt looming, and with me
still paying on my student loans at the age of forty-five (those student loan
people are some serious Black Brothers), I am offering my services for hire.

I am a 4* in the Illuminates of Thanateros, have a degree in
comparative religion, and am familiar with a  wide range of paradigms, methods, and
techniques, including: goetia, sigil making, servitor creation, Wicca,
Traditional Witchcraft, Thelema, Golden Dawn, banishing, Norse magick, Egyptian
Magick, divination, enchantment, and illumination.

Here are the services I can provide:

Ritual Design – I believe the most effective way to get the
results you want is to do the ritual yourself. I can design rituals for you
that can be done with a limited amount of proficiency and materials.

Direct Magick – I would be happy to perform a ritual for
you. This would include some token from the ritual, a picture or something
physical, which will be sent to you upon the rituals completion.

Divination – I get the best results from three card tarot
spreads. I would take a picture of the cards and provide my insight on each
card.

Prices vary by the request.

But as they say, the proof is in the pudding. I am offering
to perform any of the above for free to the first three persons who drop me an
Ask. The only condition is that I can post the Ask publicly and blog about the
procedure and the results.

Of course, if you would just like to donate (especially if
you enjoy my podcast), go to scrollofthoth.com and use the convenient paypal
button.
