SPOILER WARNING

It has a minor spoiler. Don’t read if you don’t want to know.

Chapter 5

I walked right in, and mentally noted this may be the new protocol, no knocks needed.

She spun her chair to me, her face alight. “Hey.”

My voice involuntarily dropped an octave. “Hey,” I said through my own silly grin.

I walked over to her, bent down, planted a soft kiss on her lips. She responded, arms up around my neck, pulling me in, her tongue probing, finding mine. It lasted until we needed air, and I pulled back, her arms still around me. Looking into her eyes I saw—excitement, compassion, lust, joy, questioning, fear—a perfect reflection. We dove back in, going at it with wild abandon. It switched in an instant from a simple greeting to desire unleashed.

Ego still pumped from my exploits. Libido still on full throttle from Aiden’s teasing. All rational thought evaporated. The past few days I had thought of little but how much I wanted this. The pressure was too great, the flood waters too strong. The barriers put in place to protect myself and others burst.

In the midst of it, my hands slid down her waist and to her hips. I lifted, and she clung to me, light as a feather. Latched on like a tigress on her prey,

I am so amazingly happy and grateful. I feel my tumblr followers are really the ones who did it.

What you are looking at is Amazon’s Bestsellers for free science fiction short stories. #1, is the self-publishing powerhouse, Hugh Howey, and his novella, Wool.

#2 Is Matchmaker – by me, James L. Wilber.

This has been a fucking awesome birthday.

Oh, and it ranks 896 for ALL free books on Amazon, which means I will be extending the promotion through tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It’s stuff like this that keeps me going.

I listen to a show called the Self-Publishing Podcast. One thing they pointed out recently is that publishing has always been about hard work and dedication, but before it was still a lottery. You could do all that work and still never get noticed by agents or publishers.

Now, your hard work can be directly proportionate to how successful you are. It’s still a bitch, but now at least you don’t have to rely on arbitrary gatekeepers that are only looking for the next bestseller.

Doing It – Update

UPDATE – Matchmaker has reached 3,600 on the list of free Kindle books in just 15 hours! Please help me get it to the top 1,000 and I will extend the promotion another day and shoot for the top 100!

There’s a lot of posts on tumblr saying you should cast away the daily grind and follow your dreams. Well, I’m doing it. I have decided to make writing my career. It’s my dream come true. If you could help someone do that, with minimal effort, would you?

Sunday, May 5th, is my birthday. To celebrate, both book one of my serialized novel, My Babylon, and my short story Matchmaker, will be FREE on Amazon. I appreciate all well wishes. However, I really want just one thing for my birthday – reviews.

Please take the time to download a copy. Just downloading it makes it climb a little higher on the Amazon rankings, making it easier to find.

After downloading, PLEASE leave an honest review. Reviews are the only way independent authors get noticed. We have the ability to lessen the power of the gatekeepers, and promote the media we like. Use it!

You can also leave reviews on iTunes for my podcasts, Scroll of Thoth, and Geeks Out After Dark.

And don’t forget those Facebook shares and likes, and twitter mentions, that Amazon and all those pages have to help spread the word. You can even reblog this post.

I appreciate so much everyone who has helped me with this. All of the people I follow on tumblr have been inspirational. Thank you doing what you do.
